We all set ourselves impossible targets at the end of each year. If we had a dollar for every time we heard someone say “I’ve quit” to see them puffing on a tar stick in the smoking area of Fabric on Friday night, we’d be richer than Richard Branson. Our advice — to save disappointment — leave pointless promises well alone.

One New Year’s resolution you should make, however, is to attend BPM Festival, returning on 4th January to the gloriously tropical climes of Mexico’s stunning coastline region, Playa Del Carmen, for its sixth edition. Originally conceived as the industry’s chance to escape the grind of constant travelling and endless late nights, by offering a series of beachside parties in paradise with plenty of downtime, it’s evolved into a fully-fledged festival bearing possibly the longest line-up of underground dance talent we’ve ever laid eyes on each year. It’s only getting bigger, too.

After the new year there comes a lull in the club scene. The holidays are over and people are trudging back to work – except for the DJs. What would normally be a somewhat dead zone period for DJs has been turned into vacationland and paradise. Winter blues are chased away with the sandy beaches of Playa del Carmen as BPM Festival swoops in to gather the best of the underground electronic music scene in the world. Come one, come all! It seems that everyone who’s anyone and their friends head on down to Mexico during the ten day period in January to kick up some sand and to lay down some beats.

DJ Harvey, Loco Dice (pictured above on right), and Richie Hawtin (pictured above on left), among 250 other artists, are scheduled to play the BPM Festival early next year. Taking place between January 4 and 13 in picturesque Playa del Carmen, Mexico, BPM boasts hundreds of parties, featuring performances from the likes of Masters at Work, Art Department, Josh Wink, Cassy, Carl Cox, Guy Gerber, and Seth Troxler, to name a small handful. Mexico’s BPM Festival, which will take place in Playa Del Carmen from January 4th through the 13th, has announced “Phase 2″ of its lineup.

After confirming Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Seth Troxler, Cassy and dozens of others with its first announcement a couple months ago, BPM’s program now boasts more than 200 artists, including Berlin techno heavyweight Ben Klock, who will make his BPM debut. Other highlights include Robert Dietz, Mano Le Tough, Subb-an, Bpitch Control boss Ellen Allien, UK disco don DJ Harvey and a:rpia:r member Rhadoo.

From humble beginnings DJing in his hometown of Hastings, to touring the globe as of the most revered DJs in the world, John Digweed, has always managed to stay true to the dance music he has always been so passionate about. The DJ/producer is on the brink of releasing his new Live in London album (out December 3), a 5 hour mix from his Bedrock Anniversary Party at Fire & Lightbox, in London back in October. What’s more, he will also be escaping the winter blues, to headline at the epic BPM festival in Mexico in January.
